Solutions Architect

Deans & Homer is looking for a Solutions Architect with a proven track record of planning and delivering mission critical software to production. Our current technical stack consists of applications running on or backed by Docker, NGINX, PHP 7, mySQL, Javascript (VueJS), Redis, and COBOL. This role is a critical part of our product team primarily focused on managing and developing containerized, consumer-facing, web-based applications written in PHP and using the Laravel framework, with interfaces to a legacy back-office system, written in COBOL and running on an IBM iSeries (AS400). Familiarity with iSeries application programming interfaces is a major plus.
Responsibilities
- Gather and document requirements
- Developing functional specifications
- Lead a small team of software engineers
- Build new features from the ground up
- Maintain and upgrade existing code
- Communicate with stakeholders across multiple departments
- Develop plans and schedules for delivering features efficiently
- Recommend products and processes to improve security and efficiency
- Provide regular updates to company leadership
- Explain complex problems to stakeholders in layman’s terms
Minimum Requirements
- 3+ years developing and designing production applications written in PHP
- 2+ years leading software development teams consisting of at least 2 other developers
- Experience developing applications in Laravel
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Experience planning and documenting complex data structures
- Experience managing CI/CD workflows that deploy Docker containers
- Experience with memory-based datastores such as Redis and Memcache in a production setting
Desirable Additional Skills
- Knowledge of PHP Toolkit for IBM i
- DevOps experience a plus
- Insurance or financial industry knowledge
Working on-site at our San Francisco office is preferred, but remote (US only) will be considered for the right candidate.

Full Stack Developer

Deans & Homer is looking for an experienced software engineer who is comfortable with both frontend and backend development. The full stack developer will work closely with the Solutions Architect and other key business stakeholders to design, develop, and provide ongoing support for critical customer-facing, web-based software solutions.
